The concept for The Big Horse Shop came from the ownership of my own “Big” Horses, a Shire Cross called Sam whom I ride and a traditional Cob called Inca who is a ride and drive. Like other owners, I struggled to find a rug to fit them correctly. 

Sam is 16.2, has a very big chest and neck, a short coupled body and I am afraid to say a very big bottom!  He should fit into a 7’ to 7’3 rug, absolutely no chance!  I have to buy a 7’6 rug which is far too long, even though the neck is bigger, it is still too tight on his chest.

Inca is 14’3hh, he also has a big chest, short body and big bottom.  Although he doesn't measure 6'9, that is what I have to buy him, even though it is extremely long on him, anything smaller is far too tight. 

We all know that if you want to ride or work your horse year round you have to offer some sort of protection, be it against the weather or just to stop a thick winter coat from forming. A rug is a necessity for todays horses, not a luxury.  I have spent countless hours searching the internet, reading blogs from other owners, with the same problem finding rugs and boots.  

After 8 years of making do with what was available and 2 Years of should I, shouldn't I, I finally decided yes I should and opened my own company The Big Horse Shop.  Big Horse Rugs and Big Horse Boots manufactured for the horses other manufacturers forgot, tailored to fit the chest, neck, body and bottom unique to these Gentle Giants.
